Having been diagnosed with diabetes several years ago, I have been taking medication to control my blood sugar ever since, as well as taking meds to prevent the onset of some of the disease’s complications.

Last week I saw my Canadian physician and he suggested that I undergo a fairly extensive battery of tests to insure I had no health issues that would cause me grief while I was in Haiti.

Today I returned to see him to get the results of those tests.  He informed me that there is no evidence to suggest I am diabetic, and therefore discontinued the associated medications.

His only concern was that my hemoglobin levels are a bit low, which I attribute to an iron deficient diet, something I have been trying to address since my return to Canada through enjoying some sizable steaks.  So for those whom I will visit this summer, fire up the barbecue!
